- M5GM.1e. Sing the notes of a major scale using Solfege syllables.
- M5GM.1f. Respond to ear training and tonal memory.
- M5GM.3c. Read melodies which include low Sol, low La, Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Ti, and high Do within a treble clef staff.
- M5GM.6b. Describe music using appropriate vocabulary (e.g., allegro, moderato, adagio, syncopation, forte, mezzo, piano, crescendo, decrescendo, upward, downward, step, skip), articulation terms, appropriate mood and timbre adjectives, and other musical terms: (e.g., fermata.)
- M5GM.7a. Evaluate musical performances of themselves and others.
- M5GM.10d. Sign the notes of a major scale using the Curwen hand signs.

Objectives
By the end of this module, students will be able to:
- Describe the pentatonic scale (M5GM.1f, M5GM.6b) with at least 80% quality description using a discussion rubric.
- Read melodies from a treble staff that include these pitches (M5GM.3c) with at least 80% pitch accuracy as described by the performance rubric.
- Sing basic melodic patterns from the pentatonic scale while also using the correct hand signs for each pitch (M5GM.1e, M5GM.10d) with at least 80% pitch accuracy as described by the performance rubric.
- Evaluate their own performance (singing pentatonic melodies using hand signs) with a self-check rubric (M5GM.7a).
- Evaluate their peer's performance (singing pentatonic melodies using hand signs) with informal rubrics (M5GM.7a).
- Determine, both aurally and visually, if a melody is pentatonic (M5GM.1f) with at least 80% accuracy on a multiple-choice quiz.
